


Photography 301 Expert Course
Dive deeper into your photographic journey in this third-level photography class. This class will explore Seeing Light, Metering and Advanced Exposure Value.
Designed for photographers who have taken Photography 101 and 201 or who have sufficient understanding of basic aperture, shutter speed and ISO settings and who want to learn more about light and properly exposing for it.
In Photography 301, Bruce will review and build upon previous classes to setting up the camera so you are ready for the decisive moment. He will begin by asking you to start seeing light and looking at light. After a thorough overview “Light” and how it affects your images, this class will show you “How To” set your camera to see the Light, the way you see the light.

Day 1: Introduction and Seeing Light, Overview of the Course, Review of Photography 101 & 201, Introduction to "Seeing Light", Discussion on Light Direction: Front, Back, Side, Rim, and Spotlight
Day 2: Quality of Light, Understanding Soft Light and Hard Light, Practical Examples and Exercises, Time of Day and Light: Early Morning and Midday Sunshine, Field Work: Capturing Different Qualities of Light
Day 3: Advanced Exposure Value, Exploring Advanced Exposure Value, Reflected Light vs. Incident Light, Practical Application in Various Settings, Review of Day's Photographs
Day 4: Metering Techniques, In-depth Study of Metering, Center-Weighted, Partial, and Spot Metering, Exposure Value Compensation, Hands-On Practice with Different Metering Techniques
Day 5: Technical Deep Dive, Understanding Histograms and Their Importance, Introduction to High Dynamic Range (HDR) Photography, Applying HDR in Various Lighting Conditions, Critique Session: Analyzing Histograms and HDR Images
Day 6: Practical Application and Review, Field Trip: Applying Skills in Real-World Scenarios, Golden Hour and Blue Hour Photography, Shade and Overcast Light Conditions, Final Review and Q&A Session
